SMAANZ HDR Mid-Year Conference 2024

We are thrilled to announce that registrations are now open for the SMAANZ Mid-Year HDR Conference in association with The Council for Australasian Tourism and Hospitality Education (CAUTHE) and The Australasian and New Zealand Association for Leisure Studies (ANZALS).

This year the HDR Conference will be held across two days. Day one will be an online only event on Thursday 4th July and day two will be in-person on Friday, 5th July at RMIT University (City Campus) in Melbourne. The event will also be Hybrid using the platform Microsoft Teams, should you not be able to attend in person for Day 2.

Here is some information about the conference, including a tentative schedule (please note that all times are approximate and subject to change based on feedback and communication):

You may notice that for the in-person conference as part of Day 2 events, the paper writing workshop is noted as PART 1. This workshop will have a follow up and PART 2 will be presented along the lines of an 'In-treat' writing day for the HDR Day as part of the Annual Conference to be held at Deakin University, Geelong, Waurn Ponds Campus in December. As such, activities will encourage students to take learnings from this session and come prepared for the HDR day with further ideas later in the year. These sessions will also be joined by key academics and provide a peer review like process towards journal writing. Post HDR Mid-Year conference and Annual Conference, it is hoped that students can have a full picture of journal writing and if engaged with throughout, a journal article in near to first draft by the end of the conference in December.

We would be delighted if you could join us for this free event, but please note that students must be a member of SMAANZ, CAUTHE or ANZALS in order to attend. We encourage you to share this invitation with your relevant HDR student groups and encourage them to attend and present their research. This is an excellent opportunity to present your research to your peers and the academic community. Additionally, we will be offering two workshop sessions on specific topics of interest.

We are currently accepting abstracts to present at the conference. Whether you are just starting your PhD journey or are further along, we invite you to submit a short abstract or encourage your PhD students to do so. This mid-year conference provides a great opportunity to present and workshop your research with other HDR students and academics.

If you are interested in attending the conference, please register through the following link (and indicate if you wish to present): https://forms.gle/K58FRWYNwrgh6xG69

If you have any questions in the meantime towards the Mid-year or Annual Conference HDR days, please reach to me on efaulkner@swin.edu.au

I look forward to seeing your submissions come through shortly.
