Sport Management Review (SMR)is a peer-reviewed academic journal focusing on theoretical and empirical research in sport management and related fields (e.g., marketing, governance, organizational behaviour, event and leisure management). It publishes high-quality studies that bridge sport management theory and practice, contributing to both academic discourse and the sport industry. The journal encourages collaboration between scholars and practitioners. The language of publication is English.

Origins and Founding
Founded: Volume 1 was published in 1998, a specialised journal addressing the growing need for rigorous scholarly research in sport management, sport organisations, sport policy, and related business issues.
Origins: The journal was established during a period when sport management was emerging as its own academic discipline, distinct from physical education or recreation studies. SMR provided a dedicated forum for sport management research, supporting scholarls and practitioners engaged in leadership, strategy, governance, and economic issues in sport.
Affiliation: The Sport Management Review journal serves as the official journal of the Sport Management Association of Australia and New Zealand (SMAANZ) to promote research, teaching, and practice in sport management through dissemination to sport management scholarship.
Sport Management Review Today...
SMR currently published multiple issues per year, reflecting both and increase in submissions and the growth of sport management research globally.
It currently maintains a strong interdisciplinary orientation, coverering subjects such as:
- Sport marketing, sponsorship, and fan engagement
- Strategic management and governance of sport organisations
- Consumer behaviour in sport and leisure
- Sports events and mega-events
- Digital transformations in sport management
- Social impact topics (e.g., inclusion, equity, community development)
