SMAANZ Three-Minute Thesis Award - 2022 Finalists

The SMAANZ Three-Minute Thesis Award (SMAANZ 3MT) is a new award for 2022 and replaces our "SMAANZ Student Research Award". The purpose is to encourage and support the development of the next generation of scholars in the field of sport management. The SMAANZ 3MT is open to all SMAANZ student members. It provides financial support to attend a SMAANZ conference through an annual competitive award. The award is aimed at research-based honours, masters, and doctoral degree candidates (full-time or part-time) who have completed or are completing the research component of their degree in the field of sport management.

We are pleased to announce our three finalists for 2022 Paul Bowell (Swinburne University), Chris Yorke (University of Portsmouth) & Rubi Cury (Griffith University).  Paul, Chris & Rubi will be presenting their live presentations on Thursday 1 December, 11:30am at SMAANZ 2022 in front of delegates and a panel of judges. Our winner will be awarded the SMAANZ 3MT Award at our closing conference dinner.

  • Paul's  seeks to understand how women Australian Rules footballers affectively experience digital self-tracking (such as Fitbits and GPS trackers) and what impacts these interactions have on the player's construction of selfhood, identity-making and corporeality as athletes

  • Chris examines the concept of corporate social responsibility through sport (CSRTS) to the small and medium enterprise (SME) perspective. As a result, he proposes a new approach called social impact through local sport to address barriers to CSR engagement for small businesses.

  • Rubi aims to unveil the extent and patterns of Australian Olympic sport organisations environmental policy integration as well as perceived barriers, drivers and facilitators related to the observed integration.
